Parks in Stamford Connecticut Parks

Scalzi Park

Scalzi Park is great for walks, picnics or just some outdoor fun.   This park features many recreational facilities including tennis, basketball, volleyball courts, and baseball and softball fields, running and hiking trails, as well as, a bocce ball arena. It is the largest recreational area in Stamford.

Cove Island Park

Cove Island Park features a variety of activities to do; from fishing off rocky shorelines and swimming at a sandy beach to bird and wildlife watching on the Cove River. There are also trails for running, walking, cycling and even a sprawling field for kite flying. Passes and fees are required to enter the park and can be purchased at the park gate.

Cummings Park

Located on Long Island Sound, Cummings Park is where visitors can enjoy the sandy beach, walk the boardwalk and enjoy snacks from food concession stands. Within the 79 acre park, a variety of outdoor recreational facilities are offered, including tennis courts, handball and basketball courts, a playground, and four softball fields. Passes/fees are required to enter this park and can be purchased at the park entrance.

Rye Playland Amusement Park

Rye Playland is a family-friendly amusement park, located right on the shores of Long Island Sound. There is Kiddyland for younger children, family rides and for those seeking an adventure, there are thrill rides such as, Dragon Coaster and Sky Flyer. Rye Playland also has a pool and a beach with a boardwalk for those who enjoy a cooling dip in the hot summer heat.

Norwalk Maritime Aquarium

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk offers visitors of all ages the opportunity to have a good time while learning about the aquatic life of the Long Island Sound. Featuring 34 exhibits and more than 1,200 marine animals of 259 species, Maritime Aquarium offers visitors personal interactions with animals and interpretation by knowledgeable staff and volunteers. The Maritime Aquarium also boasts Connecticut’s largest IMAX Theater, with a movie screen that’s six stories high!

Sheffield Island Lighthouse

Visitors can board the Seaport ferry to Sheffield Island and go back to a time when this and other lighthouses were critical to coastal and oceangoing shipping. Tour the 10-room lighthouse for a chance to see what life was like in the 19th century for the light keepers.

Sterling Farms

Sterling Farms is an 18-hole public golf facility laid out over 144 acres of a once active dairy farm. Sterling Farms also offers a heated driving range, golf shop and lessons, a restaurant and even a clubhouse. The courses are laid out through the picturesque farm buildings with challenging holes and par 3’s. With a variety of tees to play from, golfers of all skill levels are offered a fair and fun challenge.

Gaynor Brennan Golf Course
Opened in 1922, Maurice McCarthy Sr. of New York designed this 18-hole course set on 70 acres. Originally called Hubbard Heights Golf Course, it was renamed in 1978 to E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course in honor of the former official who helped in changing the course to a public one. This golf course also features a pro shop and a restaurant.
